When asked to think about the Camaro of the future, our designers first went back in time. Studying the performance and style of the original 60s Camaro, then experimenting with new technologies and design cues to make the muscle car far more efficient. What evolved from their vision is the Camaro Concept.
While the Camaro is powered by a classic 400 hp V8, the use of Active Fuel ManagementTM cylinder deactivation helps it achieve fuel economy of 30 mpg or better. The mix of classic and contemporary continues with Camaro’s signature long bonnet and short deck, enhanced by a lower profile for improved aerodynamics. Even the interior combines a modern aviation-inspired cockpit with orange trim and needle gauges from the 60s original.
Speaking about the Camaro Concept’s impact on the future, design director Tom Peters compared it to other GM icons. “Cars that were very strong in their day, and are still powerful. Like the Sting Ray, and the first Camaros. 50 years from now, these cars will be just as much exciting because of the passion they express. They’re timeless.”
