Creating a convertible is a true design challenge. Take off the top, and everything from aerodynamics to handling and body integrity is affected. By imagining the Camaro as a convertible from the start, our design team was able to take their concept in a whole new direction without sacrificing power or style.
Aside from the fold-down top, every detail of the Convertible is true to the Camaro Concept. Same aerodynamic design. Same no-nonsense cockpit. Same efficient 400 hp engine. In fact, the only big change is the colour. It’s called Hugger Orange, a pearl tri-coat based on the Camaro hue offered in 1969. Together with twin gunmetal grey stripes, the Convertible reflects Camaro’s heritage to perfection. While delivering a muscle car feel that makes open air driving even more beautiful.
Comparing the unveiling of the Convertible to its sister Camaro Concept, Chevrolet general manager Ed Peper said, “An emotional bond was formed when we introduced the Camaro coupe.” Then he went on to joke, “But if the Camaro Convertible doesn’t make your heart beat even faster, you should see a cardiologist, because you have a problem.”
