Ask our design team to explain the Groove, and they’ll say it’s about “funkastalgia”. In other words, a car that’s funky and nostalgic at the same time. To realise their vision for the city, our designers sought inspiration in classic Chevrolet cues like an upright windscreen and flared fenders. The result is an urban crossover with a hot rod look as tough as it is lovable.
Designed as a city car that’s big on space, the Groove delivers ample passenger room thanks to its short bonnet and long, flat cabin. Pushing the 17” wheels to the back also helped the designers maximise interior space, while creating the impression of a car longer than it really is. Open-air vents built into the front LED fog lamps keep the 1-litre diesel engine cool, while front wheel drive gives the Groove true all-weather performance.
When asked about the feeling the Groove is meant to inspire, lead exterior designer Jawook Koo replied that it’s all about presence. “I wanted to get away from the stereotype of mini cars as ‘cute’ and insecure,” said Koo. “The Groove makes you feel safe just by looking at it.”
