Chevrolet T2X concept – where sports coupe meets SUV

Chevrolet T2X concept – a more dynamic SUV

Right now, we drive an SUV if we need space, or a sports coupe if we want performance and looks.

But what if we didn’t have to choose at all?

Designers at the Chevrolet studio in Inchon, South Korea brought the two worlds together to create the T2X, a crossover design concept for younger drivers who demand flexibility with style to match.

Even in its earliest sketches, the T2X drew from the best of SUV and sports coupe design. The designers settled on a crossover platform that would offer elevated height and more interior room, but in a compact size able to deliver greater aerodynamics and fuel efficiency.

Instead of randomly mixing SUV and sports car elements, designers decided to experiment with a clean 50/50 split. While the upper body would embrace the clean lines and raked appearance of a coupe, the lower half had to be pure SUV in its handling and stance.

According to Max Wolff, Deputy Director of Advanced Design, “The T2X is a segment-busting concept that will appeal to nearly everyone, particularly to those in their 20s and 30s who aspire to a sports car look but need the off-road flexibility and configurable load space of an SUV”. The Chevrolet T2X will remain a design concept but it represents one of the future design directions for Chevrolet.

A look on the outside - flexibility with flair

With a coupe-style upper body and functional lower exterior, the T2X looks sleek and athletic. Hinged rear doors and no ‘B-pillar’ provide easy access for people and cargo, with additional storage spaces and fully foldable rear seats for extra utility.

Yet the T2X concept is able to deliver a true sports car feel, inside and out. A masculine front, sport bucket seats, motorcycle-style gauges and a 7-inch centre monitor give the T2X dynamic flair.

The T2X interior – fit and finish

The T2X’s gauges have the dynamic look of those found on motorcycles, which is indicative of the modern interior and one of the new Chevrolet signature design features, also found in the Chevrolet Spark and Aveo RS show car.

The T2X houses a 7-inch monitor in the centre fascia allowing key driver information to be communicated quickly and easily. The front seats have a sports car feel, while the rear seats were derived from those found in SUVs. The four bucket seats in the T2X all have five-point seat belts for greater safety. There’s even a removable glass roof panel to add open-air fun to the ride.

Practical lower surfaces contrast with inviting, fabric-covered upper surfaces that have a sporty theme. A mixture of fabrics and accents provides a cool and neat atmosphere that is in harmony with the stylish exterior. The workmanship and detailing are consistent with Chevrolet’s outstanding reputation for fit and finish.
