Trax

With so many large SUVs on city streets, our designers spied an opportunity. Keep the rugged attitude and performance, but make it small enough to slip through town with ease. This challenge led to the Trax. One-piece bumpers, a rear-mounted spare tyre and roof rails give the Trax a tough appearance. But the real twist is found under the surface.

Designed to perform

To make sure the Trax performs like a SUV, the design team combined front wheel drive with an entirely new all-wheel drive (AWD) system. An electric limited-slip differential features an independent battery pack and electric motor to drive the rear wheels. The result is AWD handling and performance at a far lower cost. All driven by a strong 1-litre diesel engine to give the Trax plenty of power without high emissions or fuel costs.

Ride with pride

Commenting on the pride the Trax is meant to inspire, mini car exterior design manager Sangyeon Cho said, “The Trax is a vehicle you can show off anywhere, off road or on the road. It brings a combination of SUV design, function, performance and value to the city driver.”
