About the scheme

Motability has been helping disabled people and their families enjoy the benefits of motoring since 1977.

The scheme has enabled millions to lead fuller lives, by providing access to a new car, powered wheelchair or scooter through hire purchase or contract hire schemes.

Before, many disabled people were not able to obtain the necessary credit for a new car. The Motability scheme makes the process much easier, and in many cases the full cost of the vehicle is covered by mobility or disability benefits.
